BACK COVER
"Linda Brawner is a very talented writer
who has shown the courage to put her convictions into practice
in her daily life. As a volunteer with the Richland County Suicide
Prevention Coalition, Linda has been very open about her struggles
with depression, giving media interviews and doing public service
announcements. She reveals in her writing and personal testimony
how her faith has sustained her through difficult times, and the
importance of mental health treatment and support from others.
By sharing her own experiences in very personal language, she gives
hope and inspires others to reach out for help. "Thriving with
Depression" is also filled with Bible references and examples that
Linda relates to our everyday lives."
~James D. Kinnan, Professional Clinical Counselor,
Executive Director Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board
I have struggled with depression for 35 years. I hate to
use the expression "I suffer from clinical depression" because it
emphasizes the negative. Any chronic malfunction in our body includes a
certain degree of suffering. We don't have to hold that fact before us constantly.
We don't have to passively accept what life hands us. God is eager to
help us cope with depression constructively. With His help, we can enjoy life despite the
black clouds that enshroud us time and again. With His help we can be involved in our
recovery instead of quietly taking pills and wishing for a better life.
